Okay. So you’re doing everything you can to keep your skin in tip top shape. You’re using Retinol, Vitamin C, of course Sunscreen, and you must admit your skin is looking pretty good. But, if you want to go the extra mile you might consider these lesser known but highly effective skincare superstars as your choice of longevity ingredients. Retinaldehyde
In the world of LONGEVITY (caring for your skin as you age) retinoids are considered the gold standard. These Vitamin A derivatives have strong research showing they smooth fine lines and wrinkles, create a more luminous even complexion, and fight acne. You know about Retin-A and retinol but one type of retinoid you may not be familiar with is Retinaldehyde (also known as Retinal). Retinol has been the most popular over-the-counter retinoid ingredient to date, but retinaldehyde may overtake it for all but the most sensitive skin types.

Retinoids, retinol, retinyl palmitate, and retinaldehyde all belong to the family of Vitamin A derivatives. The most potent form you can get is retinoic acid, available in prescription form as tretinoin (Retin-A). This is the form that acts directly on receptors found in your skin. All other forms must first be converted into Retinoic Acid before they can start working. Once applied, Retinol reacts with oxygen and converts to Retinaldehyde, which is then converted to Retinoic Acid. Retinyl Palmitate is even further back in the chain and must first be converted into Retinol. Since Retinaldehyde only requires one conversion to become Retinoic Acid, it is more potent and faster acting than other Retinoids. We love Retinaldehyde because it is more potent than Retinol but way less irritating than Retinoic Acid.

Exosomes
Exosomes are tiny liposome like vessels that play a key role in intercellular communication. That means exosomes send signals to your skin to do the right things at the right time to achieve homeostasis (healthy skin). Over time this cell to cell communication can break down, often due to DNA damage from things like stress, inflammation, pollution or UV exposure. Receptors become unable to hear the messages sent to them by the surrounding cells. These are the major reasons for skin cells to age prematurely. Exosome capsules are often released by stem cells but contain no genetic material. Instead you’ll find regenerative molecules like proteins, cytokines, lipids and growth factors that signal stem cells found in your skin to go into repair mode. Exosomes have emerged as promising innovators for treating maturing skin and contributing to overall skin health. These extracellular vesicles are able to target specific cells and deliver their cargo, promoting the production of collagen, elastin, and other essential components for healthy and youthful-looking skin Through this mechanism, exosomes support skin rejuvenation by promoting regeneration, reducing inflammation, and improving overall skin health. This broad range of regenerative properties make exosomes an exciting prospect for those looking to combat the signs of aging, alleviating uneven skin tone or reducing pigmentation.

Niacinamide
Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 that orchestrates a multi-pronged reparative synthesis which improves barrier function and energizes the skin. It’s an ingredient which has always played a big part in skincare but is finally getting the attention it deserves. With regular use 5% niacinamide significantly reduces the signs of hyperpigmentation. An important aspect of choosing niacinamide is that it is also the precursor for the energy boosting molecule in mitochondria called NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), important for cell metabolism. It is also required for the formation of the longevity enzyme that regulates numerous cell signaling pathways, including DNA repair and apoptosis (getting rid of damaged cells). Niacinamide’s benefits at 2% includes barrier repair, improved hydration, reduction in visible redness and reduction of the signs of aging. When the product you are using has a concentration of 5% niacinamide it also boosts reparative energy for maturing skins. This makes cellular repair much more attainable.

Architectural Peptides Peptides are short chains of amino acids that make up certain proteins needed by the skin. More specifically, collagen is made from three polypeptide chains, so adding peptides can stimulate your skin to make collagen. More collagen can lead to firmer, younger-looking and hydrated skin.
PEPTIDES TO TAKE NOTE OF:
Matrixyl Synthe’6 – this latest form of Matrixyl which is the most studied peptide for collagen stimulation. It helps with collagen production and to repair collagen proteins – reducing fine lines, wrinkles and making the skin firmer.Tetrapeptides – are architectural peptides that help firm, define and sculpt facial contours. This peptide acts on specific parts of the skin that are highly effective in evening skin tone, increasing elasticity and reducing discoloration. They contain specific amino acids like Proline, Lysine, and Glutamic Acid which are known to fade hyperpigmentation. Their anti-inflammatory effect also helps in hindering the pigmentation process.Copper Peptides – are recommended in moisturizers because of their ability to remain on the surface of the skin. They effectively grab onto and hold moisture near the skin’s surface. These peptides have large molecules, hence they are more difficult for to be absorbed fully.Rubixyl – is a cell-signaling corneotherapy peptide which means it helps repair the structure of the stratum corneum. This strengthens barrier cells and helps prevent inflammaging induced signs of aging. Even though it doesn’t penetrate there is evidence that suggests Rubixyl peptides communicate with skin cells to make improvements lower in the skin via cell signaling measures.Renovage – is an anti-senescence peptide scientifically proven to increase cellular lifespan. Renovage™ is a French anti-aging complex from Sederma, the makers of Matrixyl and other great ingredients for skin care.  Renovage has been scientifically shown in clinical tests that it can reduce the appearance of the signs of aging in the skin – in a surprising way, by reducing the shortening of telomeres. Intrinsic aging is largely controlled by progressive telomere shortening, plus low grade oxidative damage to telomeres. Palmitoyl Tripeptides – is a patented cell signaling peptide made from the amino acids, lysine and valine combined with the fatty acid palmitic acid. The fatty acid component aids in penetration. It has a visible impact on skin’s firmness and also helps smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, including deeper wrinkles. Because it is made up of small chain amino acids it may penetrate deeper into the dermis, where it could help stimulate collagen production and healthy tissue growth.

It restores power to cells, quenching age-producing free radicals and supporting cellular activities from detoxification to the production of youthful proteins. With age, energy declines, until at the age of 60 cells have fifty percent less fuel to produce proteins and other tissue elements than at 30. Ergothioneine restores power to cells, quenching age-producing free radicals and supporting cellular activities through detoxification, to the production of youthful proteins. When skin cells have more energy, response time to all active ingredients shortens. Within days, visible redness is calmed, signs of repair are enhanced, and an even tone and clarity begins to return to skin.6. Phyto Melanin – High energy light deflection technology helps shield skin from exposure to aging light emitted by smartphones, tablets and computer screens. New research shows that skin damage caused by High Energy Visible light (HEV) may be as harmful as the damage caused by UVA and UVB light combined. Computers, flat-screen TVs, mobile phones and devices, cool white daylight or full spectrum lights, all provide constant exposure to the HEV light – now considered to be a leading source of free radical damage. The damaging effects may include: weak barrier function, increased dryness and sensitivity, lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness and uneven pigmentation. Melanin in your skin has been long considered photo-protective. While natural melanin produced in human skin protects from the broad spectrum of sunlight, it’s absorbance is relatively low in the HEV region, and may be insufficient to effectively shield the skin from HEV light. Liposhield (Phyto-Melanin) is a fractionated melanin compound from vegetable origin, designed to be used topically as an additional environmental defense from the HEV light and scavenger radicals generated by the sources of HEV light, both indoors and outdoors. You’ll find Phyto Melanin in AGELESS by LONGEVITY Skincare.Astaxanthin is the most potent antioxidant carotenoid found to date. Stress occurs when cells begin to lose the fight against free radicals, leading to destruction of skin cells and tissues and compelling chronic inflammation, the bottomline of aging. Two families of antioxidants, direct and indirect, are needed to provide complete and long-term protection from free radicals. Direct antioxidants neutralize free radicals on contact while indirect antioxidants assist cellular production of our antioxidant enzymes, which are produced as they’re needed to fight oxidative stress. Indirect antioxidants also recycle direct antioxidants and trigger the activity of detoxifying enzymes. Astaxanthin, the reddish carotenoid from an Hawaiian micro-algae, is both a direct antioxidant that protects cell membranes and an indirect antioxidant that supports the formation of cells’ key antioxidant enzymes, SOD, catalase and glutathione, known as the ‘master antioxidant’.Resveratrol is known as the “Guardian of the Cell”. Cellular enzymes called sirtuins are thought to protect against DNA damage and cell death, boost cellular antioxidant defenses and increase the lifespan of cells. Resveratrol, the powerful antioxidant and sirtuin-booster famously found in red wine, has also been shown to have a youthening effect on the epigenome – the molecules that operate our genes. Within two weeks, skin sensitivity is reduced, elasticity improves and deeper signs of aging begin to disappear.Elizabeth believes in “Longevity Skincare”, the idea that beautiful skin can endure throughout one’s lifetime when utilizing the best that science and nature has to offer.
