In the quest for flawless skin, there’s one skincare technique that stands out above the rest: the double cleanse method. If you’re tired of battling stubborn blemishes or longing for a radiant complexion, incorporating this simple yet effective routine into your daily regimen could be the game-changer you’ve been searching for. Let’s explore the wonders of double cleansing and how it can revolutionize your skincare routine for lasting results and undeniable beauty.

What is the Double Cleanse Method?

The Double Cleanse method is a way of cleansing the face that comes from Asia, more precisely from Korean and Japanese beauty routines. Double Cleanse is a two-step cleansing process. The first step is to make use of an oil-based cleanser such as cleansing oils, balms, butter, or milk. It is based on the principle that “like dissolves like.”. Most of our makeup products, skincare products, sunscreens, and creams are oil-based, as well as the natural sebum produced by your skin. An oil-based product will dissolve this oil-based dirt perfectly.

The objective of the second step is to remove other types of dirt, pollution, and dead cells. In this second step, the product used is a water-based cleanser, which can be gel, foam, mousse, or soap.

What are the benefits of the double cleanse?

There are plenty of benefits to using this method.

First of all, your skin is deeply cleansed as you are using two different types of products, one for each type of residue. That prepares the skin for the products or treatments you intend to apply after cleansing. Any product will get absorbed better on clean skin.

If you have any skin concerns, such as acne, blackheads, redness, etc.., double cleansing will help to deal with them. After some time doing the double cleansing, you will see how this type of problem starts to improve.

You don’t need to use cotton pads necessarily. Therefore, it is good for the environment. Instead, you can use reusable clothes, which will save you money in the long term.

One advantage of this method is that it is appropriate for people of any skin type. Sometimes, people with oily skin are concerned about using oil to clean their faces, but there is no reason for that. The cleansing oil helps to control the amount of oil produced naturally by the skin. Therefore, people with oily skin may experience an improvement in skin oiliness.

How can I do the double cleanse?

It is very easy to use the double cleanse method. I prepared this step-by-step guide in case you are new to it.

Step 1: Choose an oil-based product right for your skin type. Take a small amount, rub it between your hands, and apply it to your face with a gentle massage.

Step 2. Remove the oil cleanser with a muslin cloth or other type of cloth and lukewarm water. Wet the cloth and put it over your face, pressing gently to remove the oil. Rinse the cloth and repeat a few more times.

Alternatively, you can rinse the oil with lukewarm water.

Step 3. Wash your face using a small amount of the right water-based cleanser for your skin type. You can use in this step any tool like a brush or silicone pad to make a deeper cleanser. However, I recommend doing that only a couple of days each week.

Step 4. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Step 5. Pat dry your face with a clean, soft cloth or towel.

Step 6. Finish the skincare routine with the application of a toner, preferably alcohol-free, to close your pores.

Which type of cleansers shall I use depending on my skin type?

That will depend on your skin type and preferences but as a guide:

Normal to Dry Skin: Cleansing Oil and a Mousse

Dry Skin: Cleansing Balm and Foam Cleanser

Oily Skin: Micellar water and exfoliating gel

Sensitive Skin: Cleansing Balm and soft soap
