In her latest Instagram post, Chlöe Bailey asked if she should dress as Who Killed Roger Rabbit bombshell Jessica Rabbit for Halloween, and while her red dress is all Mrs. Rabbit, her hairstyle is channeling the queen bee popular girl of a 2000s teen movie in the best way.The spiky bun was one of the go-to updo styles of the late ‘90s and early 2000s for formal occasions but also for day-to-day life, and Bailey’s version is a pitch-perfect recreation of the style I remember the older girls wearing to prom. The musician’s locs were gathered up high atop her head with a handful of pieces of hair pulled out from the bun and spiked straight outwards, finished with two skinny tendrils of hair on either side of her face. She looks like she walked right off the set of a Y2K cinema classic and onto our Instagram screens!Instagram contentThis content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.Bailey’s nails were equally on-trend both in the ‘00s and today. The singer opted for a classic French manicure in a cool angled lipstick shape, and stuck to warm, bronzy tones on her eyes and cheeks, finishing with lip gloss, lots of jewelry, and red stiletto heels to match the fire engine red gown. If Bailey does decide to dress as the animated bombshell for Halloween, she’s already got the dress ready and waiting.Given the internet’s obsession with all things ’00s nostalgia, there’s been a resurgence of some of the biggest “prom hair” looks from my 2000s youth in recent years, and Bailey’s is the latest addition to the canon. Bella Hadid wore a curly updo that was straight out of the Y2K era at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, and Rihanna was snapped in LA in an updo full of baby blonde ringlets. We’ve also seen throwback prom queen styles from the Megans, both Thee Stallion and Fox. I’d vote for them all!
