Elvis has officially left the building! Well, sort of. Oscar-nominated actor Austin Butler just said goodbye to his beautiful floppy, tousled blonde hair… at least for now, anyway.
The actor appeared at the SFFILM Awards Night in San Francisco on December 9 looking very different from the Butler we’ve come to expect, resplendent in a classic black tux and a full-on buzz cut. Yes, you read that right: he shaved his head. Light a candle and pour one out, because nothing gold can stay. (The actor did keep his usual facial hair, with a subtle mustache and touch of scruff near his chin.)
Of course, Butler is all about disappearing into his roles, and it’s pretty likely this transformation is for a movie. Butler has a bunch of projects in the works, so we’re not 100 percent sure which role it’s for, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to say “See ya” to his hair to truly embody a character. That’s why he has an Oscar nod, after all!
The shaved head is also a very dramatic change for the actor. Not too long ago, Butler was rocking a much longer length than normal; he was spotted filming in New York City with a nearly chin-length hairstyle. Is this for the same part, or something entirely different? Hopefully we’ll find out soon!
